METAR/TAF WIND VECTOR PREDICTIONLand 05Dep 05

Houari Boumediene Airport (ALG/DAAG) is using landing and departure 05 right now. The badge is the confidence from the live NOAA Aviation Weather Center METAR and TAF wind vector, scored against every threshold.

Live METAR and TAF

NOAA METAR was unavailable, so the wind vector assumes calm air and prefers the longer runways.

Headwind, tailwind, and crosswind at DAAG

Every runway threshold at DAAG. Headwind is on the nose. Tailwind is the same component when the wind is on the tail. Positive crosswind in the source math is from the right.

How do crosswinds affect runway selection at Houari Boumediene Airport?

Aircraft land and depart into the wind. Headwind is the part of the wind along the runway heading. Crosswind is the part blowing across the pavement. A negative headwind is a tailwind. At Houari Boumediene Airport (ALG/DAAG) the live call is landing and departure 05 with METAR wind Unavailable. 05 shows 0.0 kt headwind, 0.0 kt tailwind, and calm crosswind (0.0 kt). Controllers switch runways when the opposite threshold offers more headwind, or when the crosswind on the runway in use climbs. The component table lists every DAAG threshold so you can see which end holds the headwind and which end is taking the tailwind.
